Help with Pulli Dawn, the kolam practice doorstep.

Frequently asked

My line keeps breaking instead of closing into a loop

A sikku kolam needs a single line that winds around every dot without ever touching one, and ends back where it started. If a dot lights up softly, you grazed or missed it — lift your finger, use Undo, and trace that section again. There's no penalty for retrying, only a gentle highlight on the dot to watch.

How do I follow a traditional pattern instead of drawing freely?

On the doorstep, tap the grid chip and turn on the guide. A faint version of the chosen pattern appears under the dots so you can trace over it. You can also open any entry in the Grid Book and tap Trace to send that exact pattern to the doorstep.

The camera won't open when I try to photograph my kolam

Pulli Dawn asks for camera permission the first time you use it. If you declined, open Settings on your device, find Pulli Dawn, and turn Camera back on — the app also offers a direct link to that screen. You can always choose an existing photo from your library instead, which needs no camera permission.

Can I use the app without an internet connection?

Yes. Pulli Dawn has no account and no server, and every pattern, drawing and calendar entry lives on your device, so it works fully offline from first launch.

What do pulli, sikku and padi mean?

Pulli is the dot grid you draw on first. A sikku kolam (also called neli) is one continuous line woven around the dots. A padi kolam is drawn with straight ruled lines rather than a woven line. The in-app glossary under How-to covers these and more.
